DSW - JULY 2025 - THE HEART

Plan intro - DSW - JULY 2025 - THE HEART

"I love you with all my heart."

"You broke my heart"

"Put  your heart into it"

"Would you like to invite Jesus into your heart?"

These are just a few common phrases about this month's topic, "The Heart."  Each of these references originate from Mark Lowry's 1993 Album, "Mouth in Motion." which includes a hilarious comedy bit entitled "Open Heart Surgery." (https://youtu.be/xgQOr1Syu0c?si=m7Kjj90-sBvT5LcD). He describes an episode of a show on The Discovery Channel which involved an actual open heart surgery, and described in hilarious detail as he watched that show in amazement, and then went on to elaborate how the word "heart" is often used in modern culture as a descriptor of the seat of emotions.  It is indeed used in many, many ways!

The word "heart" is also used in many, many ways in the Word of God. One of the first references that comes to my mind is found in Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Another is Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me." Yet another is Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding."  All of these are great uses of the word "heart" in God's Word, and are just a few illustrations of how this particular word is used.

This month's plan will illustrate to some extent how the word "heart" is used in the Holy Bible. The plan only scratches the surface of how many times is is used! According to Mary Rice Hopkins article describing the use of this word in the Bible, it is invoked over 1,000 times, and she opens her article stating, "The Heart as Center of Hidden Emotional-Intellectual-Moral Activity,"  It is indeed quite amazing to see the ways and how many times it is used!  (You can read Mary's fascinating article here: https://maryricehopkins.com/the-word-heart-is-in-the-bible-over-1000-times/).

I hope as you write the scriptures for this plan, you are challenged to think on a deeper level about how the word "heart" is used in the Bible.  I pray you dig even deeper than the plan can begin to do, and truly seek for yourself the heart God has for you, and how much love is contained therein.  Let that heart of love wash over you afresh, and fill you with gratitude as you ponder just how much He truly loves you and me!

Happy Writing!  ~Mel~

** Please note: I write all my plans based from the KJV Holy Bible, so other translations may vary in wording, but should have the same context. Also, I write all my plans for 31 days so they can be used any month of the year. **
