DSW - AUGUST 2023 - "I AM"

Cartoon character, Popeye the Sailor Man, famously stated,  " I yam what I yam an' that's all I yam." As a child, I always found that statement to be odd, because in a sense, it overstated the obvious. It confounded me as I pondered his statement. Of course he was who he was, and that's all he was. How could he be anything other than what he was?  I don't think I ever really resolved that conflict in my mind, though I admit to not thinking too deeply on it as I grew older and moved on to more mature, adult topics to ponder, such as those surrounding our topic this month, "I AM."  Not to compare Popeye the Sailor Man to God, but I can't help but wonder if Moses was a bit confounded as well in this passage, " And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? DSW - July 2023 - "Living Water"

DSW - July 2023 - "Living Water -" Plan Intro Water is essential to life. Nothing on this planet can survive without it; even those organisms which require the least of it, do require some measure of hydration. We recently had a 1 day VBS at our church which we themed, “Goin’ Fishin’,” based on Luke 4:10 (Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.) Of course, in our lesson time, we taught the children about Jesus’ words about being “fishers of men,” and then later in the day they all had the opportunity to play outside in LOTS of water…on water slides, in a HUGE slip & slide, and in the water hose spray. On that day, water was used to teach, and to have fun and cool off in the hot sun. WATER is VITAL to life! In a story from John 4 which many of us know quite well, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman drawing water from a well.
