DSW - APRIL 2024 - “THEREFORE: what’s it THERE for?” Definition: THEREFORE: (adverb): for that reason; consequently. Synonyms: Therefore, wherefore, accordingly, consequently, so, since, & then all introduce a statement resulting from, or caused by, what immediately precedes. Sometime ago, probably many years now, as a young Christian, I recall a pastor giving this advice in a sermon: “Anytime you see the word THEREFORE, in the Bible, stop yourself and ask what is it THERE for?” I found his advice to be intriguing and began to follow it. This rule of thumb surely does give one reason to pause and think about what the scripture is trying to say in the full context of the given passage. When you come across it in God’s Word, ask yourself the following questions: —> What precedes the “therefore?” —> What follows the “therefore?” —> What is the message relayed in the totality of the passage? —> What is the life application of this passage (specifically, ho...
