PLAN INTRO - DSW - AUGUST 2025 - "HIS NAME"

PLAN INTRO - DSW - AUGUST 2025 - "HIS NAME"

In the early days of our marriage, as our family was just beginning and growing, my husband and I took very careful consideration in the naming of our children.  As each one came along, we'd painstakingly research names for both a boy and a girl, as we anxiously waited to see which name we'd get to use. Our first child's name (a boy) was selected after a sermon by our (then) pastor and the 1st & 2nd grade Sunday school class that we taught.  Our 2nd child's name (a girl), had been inspired by a book I read at the age of 14, and had been hanging on to ever since.  Our third child's name (a boy), came as a tribute to 2 of our grandfathers (had he been a girl, he would have been named, "Gabriella," which my research revealed means "breath of God," and I absolutely loved it!). Our fourth child was adopted, but we had some input on her name, and she too was named after family members.  Remarkably, over the years, the character of each of our 4 children has come to reflect the names we chose.  Names, their use and meaning thereof, are important!

There is a song by Brandon Lake currently on the Christian Contemporary Music charts called, "I Know A Name," and the opening verse says,

"I know a name that can silence the roaring waves. I know a name that can empty out a grave. I know a name, it's the only name that saves. And it's worthy of all praise."

13 "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." John 14:13-14

WOW.  THERE IS POWER IN A NAME!!  By design, our heavenly Father made it to be so. That song, along with a sermon or 2, some random YouTube finds, conversations, etc. has had the wheels turning in my head about "His Name."  So this month, I thought we would look at some of the ways the words "His Name" are used in the Bible." As you write out the daily assignments, ponder how those 2 words are invoked in the passage.  Is it used in a way that denotes power and authority?  Is is a directive?  Is it observational?  Read the verses before and after, and allow the fullness of the use to broaden the context in your mind.

I pray that as you write the scriptures for this plan, you are challenged to think on a deeper level about how the word these 2 words are used in the Bible.  I challenge you to dig even deeper than the plan does, and truly seek for yourself what the Word of God has to say about "His Name."

Happy Writing!  ~Mel~

** Please note: I write all my plans based from the KJV Holy Bible, so other translations may vary in wording, but should have the same context. Also, I write all my plans for 31 days so they can be used any month of the year. **
