As we draw closer to Easter here in late March, my mind and heart just keep going back to Calvary, the hill of the skull - Golgotha. I imagine my Savior, Jesus Christ, hanging there between 2 thieves; bloodied and bruised, with a crown of thorns on His head, as blood flows from a wound deep in His side. It wasn't a dignified way to die. It was the way that the lowest of the lowlifes were executed by the Roman government for their crimes against it. There 3 men were hanging in the blazing sun: 2 criminals who had been caught and presumably tried for their crimes, then sentenced to death.
