PLAN INTRO - DSW - OCTOBER - 2024 - GIFTS

"Every perfect gift comes from above, From the Father of lights, From the Lord of love
This joy that I have that I'm singing of, Is from the Lord"

"That's Where The Joy Comes From."

Steve Green sang it on his album, "He Holds The Keys," back in 1985. Some years later, I had the privilege of singing it as a duet with a dear friend, Alan Smart, and the choir at our church, Princess Anne Plaza Baptist, in Virginia Beach, VA (USA). The lines of that chorus have stuck with me through the years. GIFTS.

Birthdays.

Christmas.

Anniversaries.

Valentine’s Day.

Any ole day.

Who doesn’t like to receive a gift? Very few people I can think of, as a matter of fact, probably not a single one, do not like to receive one. Sometimes they are expected as in the aforementioned holidays. Sometimes they come out of the blue as a “just because,“ and are a pleasant surprise. But as already mentioned, there aren’t a whole lot of people who do not like to receive a gift.

Did you know that Christians are given by God spiritual gifts, which are employed in the work of the kingdom every day? Unlike worldly, temporal gifts which are given and often quickly forgotten, these gifts are lasting. Once we have received Christ as Savior and his Holy Spirit has come to indwell within us, we receive gifts that are to be used in the furtherance of the Kingdom of God. These gifts can be found in scripture in 1 Corinthians 12. They consist of, but are not limited to: the word of wisdom, a word of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, and tongues. Some of these gifts, like faith & miracles, are pretty much self-explanatory and require little to no deep theological studies to understand. Others, such as the discerning of spirits and tongues, often require deeper thought and intense study. At any rate, just as the Fruits of the Spirit which we focused on in the month prior contribute to the body of Christ and it’s completeness, these spiritual gifts do the same.

Do you know what your spiritual gift/gifts are? If not, perhaps this month in our writing plan the Lord will help to reveal that to you! As you write out the daily assignments, pray and ponder about how the Lord uses these gifts in our lives, and specifically in yours. My prayer is that you will not only better understand spiritual gifts through this plan, but that you will embrace yours and use it even more effectively!

Happy Writing! ~ Mel ~

Please note: I write all my plans based from the King James Version of the Holy Bible, so other translations may vary in wording but should have the same context. Also, I write all plans for 31 days so that they can be used any month of the year.
