DSW - MAY 2023 - PROMISES

Intro to May 2023 Daily Scripture Writing Plan, "Promises"

In 1980's, there was a song released by the British new wave group, Naked Eyes, called "Promises, Promises." The song hit #11 on the Billboard top 100 in 1983, so it must have struck a note with many people!  The chorus of that song says:

"You made me promises, promises. Knowing I'd believe.
Promises, promises. You knew you'd never keep."

I remember all too well being a teenager in that time period, and relating to those lyrics on several occasions of heartbreak with a boyfriend, a friendship break-up, etc. Having a promise made and then broken can indeed one of life's greatest sources of grief, depression, and all around loss. We truly live in a world of broken promises from loved ones, family members, employers, church leaders, politicians, etc. In light of that, it sure does make this month's topic, "Promises," feel even more reassuring!! Of all the promises made in all the generations of this world, we know that our heavenly Father's promises have never been broken, nor will they ever be! "Standing on the promises of God," isn't just a hymn that I grew up singing in church, but it truly is the mantra of my life!!  I rest assured every, single day in the promises made in the Holy Bible, God's written Word to us!
A more recent song, "Promises," by Maverick City, reassures us even more of God's promises.  The first verse says,

"Faithful through the ages, God of Abraham
You're the God of covenant, And of faithful promises
Time and time again, You have proven
You'll do just what You said"

AMEN & AMEN!!!

As you read and write this month's daily assignments, I challenge you to go even deeper into the scriptures to find more meaning and depth in each promise. If time & ability allows, don't stop at the given assignment, but read and perhaps even write the verses before and after to determine how they relate to the assignment and speak to your heart even more fully.  You won't regret one moment spent diving deeper into God's Word.  That, I can PROMISE!!

I write all my plans based off of the King James version of the Holy Bible, so other translations may differ some in wording, but the context should be the same. I also write all my plans for 31 days so that they can be used for any month of the year.

Happy reading and writing!
~ Mel ~
