"Last Days & New Beginnings"

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

As we draw closer to Easter here in late March, my mind and heart just keep going back to Calvary, the hill of the skull - Golgotha.  I imagine my Savior, Jesus Christ, hanging there between 2 thieves; bloodied and bruised, with a crown of thorns on His head, as blood flows from a wound deep in His side.  It wasn't a dignified way to die.  It was the way that the lowest of the lowlifes were executed by the Roman government for their crimes against it. There 3 men were hanging in the blazing sun: 2 criminals who had been caught and presumably tried for their crimes, then sentenced to death.  The third man, the one they called "King of the Jews" on a sign that hanged above his head, had also been to trial and been found guilty, but He was no criminal.  He spoke no words in His defense, though he had done no wrong.  He simply accepted his fate in that mockery of a trial, for He knew the Father's will must be carried out.  He was a man of great love.  He was a man of great kindness and wisdom. He was a man of great mercy and grace, and so very much more. Those were the things that He should have been found guilty of in the trial that ultimately placed Him upon that cross. He should have been freed as those are no crime, but instead, the crowd cried to free Barrabas - a known criminal.  Jesus was beaten and scourged and mocked.  He was forced to carry His cross to the hill where He would be hanged upon it, until He could carry it no more and another man would be compelled to step in and carry it for Him.  He was nailed to the beams through His hands and feet, and the cross was cruelly dropped into a hole that had been dug for it. He body convulsed with pain.  Blood and water flowed. He thirsted and was given bitter gall to remedy it. Around the 6th hour, though He surely had cracked and bleeding lips and a swollen tongue, He cried out with a loud voice, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit," and He died.  But that was not the end of the story!  3 days later, when Mary went to attend to the body, she was greeted by an angel who sat before an empty tomb, and she rushed back to tell the men that He was ALIVE!  Just as He had told them he would do, He had risen, and He was ALIVE!!!

All of my faith hangs upon that cross where Jesus died. All my hope for eternity.  All my peace for getting through my daily life.  I have to go there daily to renew my mind and spirit. I have to look upon His face and remember that though He had committed no true crimes, it was my sin that held Him there.  My sins nailed Him upon that cruel and wicked tree.  He stayed there to pay a ransom that I could not pay, for crimes He had not committed.  Yes, my sin and yours kept Him there.  We were the reason He hung in the balance that day.  And oh, how He loves us so!

This month's plan covers is titled, "Last Days & New Beginnings." It covers Jesus' last days on earth, His crucifixion and resurrection, and the ushering in of the Holy Spirit after His death.  I pray it will take you on a journey to see our Saviour as He gave His life for us, and will then proceed to introduce you to the Holy Spirit in a new and fresh way.  I write all my plans based off of the King James version of the Holy Bible, so other translations may differ some in wording, but the context should be the same.  I also write all my plans for 31 days so that they can be used for any month of the year.

I wish you all a gloriously beautiful Easter, and may we all remember that Easter is not about the bunny - it's about THE LAMB!
