November Scripture Writing Plan, "Give Thanks"

November Scripture Writing Plan, "Give Thanks"

"Give thanks with a grateful heartGive thanks to the Holy OneGive thanks because He's givenJesus Christ, His Son"

According to Wikipedia, the song, "Give Thanks," was written by Henry Smith in 1978, as he experienced difficulty finding employment  after graduating from college and at the same time grappled with a health condition which eventually left him blind.  "His pastor inspired him with a reference to how Jesus made himself poor to make others rich through Him," the Wikipedia article goes on to say.  The song was made famous when it was released by Integrity Music with Don Moen singing it.  It was erroneously thought to have been written by Don, but the publisher made sure Mr. Smith was attributed as the writer.

Giving thanks in the midst of trial and adversity can sometimes be a difficult thing to do, yet it is the one thing that gives believers in Christ the strength to face those challenges in life.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says,

16. Rejoice evermore. 17. Pray without ceasing. 18. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

REJOICE. PRAY. GIVE THANKS. These 3 things are the key to facing the storms of life's seas. A heart that is overflowing with thanks can withstand the most difficult trials because that person's strength comes from the overflow of gratitude to the Lord. Though gratitude in the midst of hardship doesn't always come naturally, it always gives strength to face whatever curve balls life throws!

As we enter into November, the US ushers in the holiday season with the celebration of Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of the month. People will gather around the table with family and friends and enjoy a delicious meal of traditional Thanksgiving fare - turkey, ham, dressing/stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, etc. Memories of Thanksgiving past will be shared and new memories will be made. While we are making new memories and honoring old ones, lets make sure we are giving thanks with a grateful heart to the One who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us by giving His life so that we might live eternally - our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.

What else are you giving thanks for today, and for those of us in the US, in this holiday season? I challenge you to list those things every day as you write the scriptures. You'll find that your cup will over flow!
