October 2022 Daily Scripture Writing Plan Intro - "Harvest"
Well, it's that time of year again. The farming communities around our home in northwest Georgia, USA (in the southeastern US) are in full swing to harvest their crops. Fields of cotton look like fields of snow. Soy fields are starting to yellow with ripe crops. Many corn crops have already been gleaned and only the stalks remain, awaiting to be cut down and ground up. It's an amazing thing to watch as the farmers go through all the steps to harvest the products of their diligent efforts over many, many months. Harvest is a process that really takes up the entire year, year after year as the fields are harvested and the soil is prepared for the next year's planting.
In many ways, the process of harvesting crops parallels that of lives being sown in Christian faith. Jesus addressed this in Matthew 9:36-38 which states,
36But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
My husband is an ordained minister, and back in the Spring of this year, he was contacted to come and interview at a small church in our city, in view of a call there as pastor. As we approached the church that day, he observed that there was a park directly across the street from the church where families were spending time playing on that beautiful Spring day. He very excitedly stated, "Honey! Look over there at that park! What a great place to meet people and invite them to the church!" He then quoted verses 37 - 38 above. The interview went well and the church voted him in as pastor. We were blessed to become a part of that loving church family. These days, he spends much time in the park visiting with families as he shares the love of Jesus there and invites them to visit our church. The "field" truly is plenteous!
Our world can be a scary and overwhelming place. Images of political unrest, protests, wars, natural disasters and so much more flood the evening news each night. Death and destruction as well as rebellion against the true and living God are displayed in living color there. Any Christian with a heart for lost souls can watch for just a few moments and quickly realize that just as in Matthew 9:37, the harvest truly is plenteous! The vast numbers people in need of a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ are overwhelming, and can even be seen in our own homes, families, communities, etc. "But the laborers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest." Yes, we must pray for laborers to share the love of Christ to a lost and dying world, but we must also realize that WE are that workforce! Sharing the love of Christ through word, song or deed just might be the very seed that will sprout in a person's life and bring them to an eternal, saving knowledge of Jesus! As we write about the "Harvest" in this month's plan, lets keep in mind that not only do many of these scriptures refer to a literal planting and harvesting of crops, but they also paint a parallel of the harvest of ETERNAL lives. Let's be those farmers and get those seeds planted!
Happy Writing, and planting!!
(Note: I write the plans based on the King James Version of the Holy Bible. Other translations may have slightly different wording, but the heart of the scriptures should be the same, even if the wording is not identical. All plans are written for 31 days so that they have enough days to potentially be used in any month of the year).
